Wardruna is a ritual folk project with former black metal band Gorgoroth-members Kristian ‘Gaahl‘ Espedal and Einar ‘Kvitrafn‘ Selvik among their ranks. The atmosphere Wardruna creates on recordings is phenomenal, but that does not even come close to how it is experienced live. Their songs sound as if they were created thousands of years ago by long-forgotten tribes of the highlands.
After the amazingly beautiful Wardruna performance last September @ Incubate, I think everyone in the Ampi theater thought, after being flabbergasted for a couple of minutes: “Wow! that was a once in a lifetime experience.”
Guess what: It does not have to be! Because Wardruna will play EuroSonic in Groningen! EuroSonic is a European music conference and showcase festival which this year takes place on 14 and 15 January 2010.
I wonder where they’re going to play, as the previous performances were at a Viking ship, in a castle on a mountain and in an amphitheater. Let’s hope that it will be a magical as it was the previous times.
Other artists on Eurosonic 2010 are, among many others:
Audrey Horne (With Arve Isdal of Trinacria, Enslaved (both will play Roadburn 2010) and Ov Hell, and Thomas Tofthagen of Sahg. A former member was Tom Cato Visnesv who plays/played in Gorgoroth, Jotunspor, God Seed and Ov Hell)
and Sivert Høyem (singer of Madrugada).
