Beautiful new video from Soap&Skin for her song Thanatos.
Soap&Skin is an Austrian singer-songwriter that really made an impression on me with her performance at the Incubate festival. She has a really schizo stage act, has a sometimes really scary hollow voice, but still manages to come across as very sweet and delicate.
I would recommend anyone to see her perform live. It is much more interesting than you should think when you listen to her music on record.
Interesting title. There’s a Dutch death metal outfit with that moniker. So that should already say a lot about the evil implications of this name. And yes, as the always helpful Wikipedia says: In Greek mythology, Thanatos was the personification of Death and he is a son of Nyx (Night) and Erebos (Darkness), and twinbrother of Hypnos (Sleep).
Thanatos and twin brother Hypnos were once beautifully depicted by John William Waterhouse. And, funny enough, this painting really visualizes the feeling I get when listening to Soap&Skin.
